Samson customs
Symbol for regional awareness

The Samson is one of those regional cultural assets that are considered to be particularly identity-forming for the Salzburg Lungau region and its population.
The Samson, which weighs between 65 and 105 kg, rests on the shoulders of a single Samson bearer. The latter carries it alone when dancing or marching to the music of the local brass band, otherwise it is supported by four "bearers". In front of the houses of dignitaries and patrons, as well as for the entertainment of the crowd of interested visitors, the Samson performs honorary dances.
