Bacherhof
|
Our farm, the Bacherhof, has been owned by the Bacher family since 1633 and has always been handed down in the male line. For this reason of family ownership we are a hereditary farm.
The estate used to be under the lordship of the Count of Kuenburg. On 2 January 1633, Blasi Seitlinger sold his land at the farm in Gröbendorf to his neighbour, Georg Bacher. Since then, the farm has always remained in the possession of the Bacher family.
The Bacherhof currently comprises approx. 23.9 hectares of arable land and 30.4 hectares of forest.
Our ranch, as we affectionately call it, is located right in the heart of the Lungau at approx. 1100 metres above sea level and belongs to the municipality of Mariapfarr.
The farm has four branches of business:
cattle fattening,
potato and grain cultivation
forestry and
tourism.
We house an average of 30 cattle in our barn. In summer we have sheep and goats, rabbits and our farm and stable cats, all of whom are naturally happy to have visitors. In winter, the barn is full with our cattle, which spend the summer on the mountain pasture. The rabbits and cats are also there in winter.
We are particularly proud of the fact that we grow the famous ‘Lungauer Eachtling’, the delicious potatoes, in our fields. The high altitude of the Lungau region (over 1,000 metres above sea level) and the natural, humus-rich, sandy soil are ideal conditions for growing potatoes.
Barley is grown on a further seven hectares of our beautiful farm. Here too, the altitude and our soils are particularly suitable for producing hardy, high-quality seed.
